Three years later, Lauren spoke at the Vale Medical Foundation’s annual meeting.
The emergency bracelet sat in a small glass case beside the stage.
It was scratched from the fall.
Lauren no longer wore it.
She kept it because the device represented more than evidence. It represented a system designed to listen when a patient could barely speak.
The foundation had expanded remote monitoring to every clinic.
Patients could choose secure audio capture during dangerous medical events. Independent advocates reviewed unusual medication patterns. No relative or spouse could access the data without consent.
After the speech, a young woman approached Lauren.
Her husband managed her medication and told doctors she was confused.
Lauren listened.
She did not tell the woman to confront him.
She connected her with medical staff, legal counsel, and safe housing.
The bracelet had once transmitted seventeen minutes.
Those minutes exposed the push, the poisoning, the forged documents, and the lie waiting on the lawn.
Julian believed Lauren’s fall would make her silent.
