Ethan called state police ten minutes after leaving Walter.
Madison supplied the language.
“Possible dementia. Risk to himself. Refusing family assistance.”
Ethan looked into the side mirror.
Walter remained visible behind them, small against the road.
For one second, guilt moved across Ethan’s face.
Madison saw it.
“Do not turn around.”
“He could collapse.”
“Then the police find him.”
“He is my grandfather.”
“He is the only person blocking our future.”
Ethan tightened both hands on the wheel.
The sedan continued toward the next junction.
The vehicle belonged to Hayes Continental.
Every company car recorded location, cabin audio after an emergency stop, and exterior video whenever a passenger door opened on a highway.
