After losing the company, Adrian filed for temporary custody of Lily.
The petition claimed Emma’s public role exposed the newborn to danger. It described Emma as vindictive, overwhelmed and too focused on corporate retaliation to provide stable care.
He cited photographs of Emma entering legal offices and board meetings during the first weeks after birth.
Every meeting had occurred with Lily nearby and medical support present.
The petition was not designed to succeed permanently. It was designed to frighten Emma and force a financial settlement.
For one night, it worked.
Emma sat beside Lily’s bassinet unable to sleep. She knew the evidence favored her, but she had already watched Adrian turn a laboratory page into a public accusation. The possibility of a judge believing him, even temporarily, felt unbearable.
Hedy reminded her that fear did not predict the outcome.
The family court appointed an independent evaluator.
Adrian presented himself as a grieving father excluded by a powerful trust. He claimed the paternity fraud had been Vanessa’s idea and said he accepted the first report because he was shocked.
The entrance footage contradicted him.
So did his messages, financial records and attempt to discharge Lily without proper medical clearance.
June Ellis testified that Adrian never asked whether the baby was healthy. He asked only whether Emma had signed.
Dr. Miriam Cole documented Emma’s safe parenting and the medical harm caused by the early discharge.
The judge denied Adrian’s petition and restricted his contact pending the criminal case.
The written ruling contained one sentence Emma kept:
Parenthood cannot be asserted as ownership after being denied as strategy.
Emma did not celebrate.
Lily would one day learn that her father tried to erase and claim her within the same month.
Emma could not control that history.
She could control whether Lily grew up believing blood required access without accountability.
