Chapter 10 - The Emergency Board
Martin convened the emergency board meeting while the jet remained in flight.
Martin summarized the evidence without exaggeration.
Ryan interrupted.
“This is a domestic dispute being used to sabotage a legitimate transaction.”
Victoria said nothing.
Martin played a short excerpt from the cabin recording.
Chloe’s voice: He said you would never board this flight.
Then Ryan’s: You cannot stop the board vote from this aircraft.
Silence followed.
A director named Helen Brooks spoke first.
“Ryan, did you disclose your relationship with outside counsel?”
Ryan’s jaw tightened.
“My personal life is irrelevant.”
“Not when counsel certified a petition benefiting you.”
Another director asked Chloe whether the medical letter came from Victoria’s doctor.
Chloe answered, “No.”

Victoria closed her eyes for one second.
