Victoria had not been scheduled to be on the jet.
Victoria sat across from them instead of retreating to the forward cabin. She studied both faces.
“Why is Chloe traveling to Chicago?”
Ryan answered first.
“Emergency contract review.”
“What contract?”
“A supplier transaction.”
Chloe added, “Privileged work.”
Victoria turned toward her.
“You represent Hale Dynamics. I am the chairwoman and majority shareholder. Try again.”
Chloe’s composure weakened.
Ryan leaned forward. “You are emotional. Let us wait until we land.”
There it was.
Not concern.
Positioning.
Victoria opened the company travel portal.
The jet’s destination was Chicago.
The return flight was not.
Victoria looked up.
“The affair is not why you are afraid.”
Ryan’s mouth tightened.
