Six months later, Hale Dynamics announced the strongest quarter in its history.
The divorce moved quickly because Ryan’s own recording destroyed the story he tried to tell.
Victoria kept the jet.
On her first flight after the investigation closed, she entered the cabin in the same navy suit. Seat 4A was empty. Her mother’s ring rested on her right hand.
Captain Lewis greeted her from the cockpit.
“Destination?”
Victoria looked at the cloudless sky ahead.
“Boston.”
She sat by the window and opened a folder containing plans for a new employee ownership program. Mark and Olivia had helped design safeguards that allowed staff to challenge unusual financial orders without risking immediate dismissal. Martin rebuilt the legal department around independent review instead of personal loyalty.
Victoria also created a company fund for employees caring for sick parents or grieving family members. Ryan had treated human vulnerability as evidence of incompetence. She wanted Hale Dynamics to prove the opposite: people did not become weaker leaders because they loved someone, lost someone, or needed time to recover.
For years, Ryan had treated Hale Dynamics like an empire waiting for a king.
Victoria understood it differently now.
The jet climbed above the clouds.
At thirty thousand feet, Victoria looked at the ring her mother had worn while building everything Ryan tried to steal.
He believed betrayal would leave her powerless before landing.
