Chapter 11 - The Ring Returns
After the board call ended, the cabin grew quiet.
Chloe sat apart from Ryan now. The space between their seats looked wider than the aisle.
Victoria picked up her mother’s ring.
The platinum was warm from Chloe’s hand.
“Why this ring?” Victoria asked.
Ryan did not answer.
Chloe did.
“He said it proved the old Hale family was over.”
Victoria looked at Ryan.
He kept his eyes on the window.
Victoria slid her mother’s ring onto her right hand, removed her wedding band, and placed it on the table.
Ryan finally looked at her.
“Do not do this here.”
