Chapter 02 - The Woman Wearing Her Mother’s Ring
Chloe tried to hide the ring by closing her hand.
Victoria noticed.
“Take it off,” Victoria said.
Chloe’s face hardened. “Ryan gave it to me.”
Ryan lowered his voice.
“This is not what it looks like.”
Victoria almost smiled.
“It looks like my husband stole my mother’s ring and gave it to the attorney advising my company.”
Chloe looked toward Ryan.
That glance told Victoria more than any confession. Chloe had known where the ring came from.
Ryan stepped into the aisle.
“We need to discuss this privately.”
“We are on my aircraft.”
“Our aircraft.”
Victoria looked around the cabin.
The flight attendant had stopped near the galley, watching without appearing to watch. Two junior executives sat farther back, frozen behind laptops. Victoria lifted her phone.
“Captain Lewis,” she said into the cabin intercom app, “maintain the current flight plan. No destination change without my authorization.”
Ryan’s expression shifted.
“What are you doing?”
