Emma returned six weeks later with a wrist brace, Rachel beside her, and a locksmith changing every code.
Emma stopped at the staircase.
At the top, she found the repaired blue nursery box on a table. Caleb had asked police to preserve it. The blankets were cleaned. The silver rattle rested inside.
In the study, Michael opened the original trust folder.
Nothing was missing.
Victor had hidden it because he needed the seals and beneficiary schedule, but he had not yet destroyed it.
Emma signed one document that afternoon.
