Chapter 05 - Caleb Runs Downstairs
Caleb reached Emma before Victor did.
“Emma, can you hear me?”
“Yes.”
“Is there blood?”
“I do not know.”
Lucas still held the phone.
Caleb looked up at him.
“Call the ambulance.”
“It is already coming.”
“Then give me your jacket.”
Lucas did not move.
Victor descended slowly.
“No one says anything until counsel arrives.”
Caleb stared at him.
“She is pregnant.”
“She fell.”
Michael’s voice came through the phone.
“She was pushed.”
Victor looked at the device with hatred.
Emma reached for Caleb’s wrist.
“The baby is moving.”
Then her face tightened.
The movement was followed by another wave of pain.
Caleb shouted toward the front door for help even though the sirens were not yet audible.
Lucas crouched beside Emma and tried to take her hand.
She pulled away.
“Do not touch me.”
The words stopped him.
Emma looked at him through tears.
