Chapter 13 - The Trial
Lucas accepted a plea before trial.
The video left little room for another story.
He pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, attempted coercion, and participation in financial fraud. Victor faced separate charges involving forged trust documents, lender deception, and conspiracy. Caleb cooperated, returned money he had received, and accepted probation for his role in preparing the financial projections.
Emma gave a victim statement in court.
She looked toward Lucas.
“Courage was not the absence of fear. It was refusing to let fear sign their papers.”
The courtroom remained silent.
Emma described how financial coercion had grown slowly inside her marriage: missing mail, hidden accounts, jokes about pregnancy making her irrational, and pressure disguised as concern.
“The push was visible,” she said. “The control started long before the staircase.”
Lucas received a prison sentence and mandatory no-contact order.
