That morning, Lucas sent a message saying he had packed the rest of her belongings. Emma could collect them if she came alone and signed one final document.
She did not come alone.
Her attorney, Michael Grant, remained on a video call in her phone, unseen inside the blue box. Emma had told him Lucas recently changed the locks, withheld her mail, and threatened to destroy trust records belonging to her late mother.
Michael advised her not to enter.
Emma entered anyway because the nursery box was still upstairs.
Now the blankets lay across the steps.
