The Memory From Hangar Seven

Chapter 13 - The Memory From Hangar Seven

The wreckage from Jack’s helicopter remained inside a military storage hangar.

Investigators reopened it.

The navigation unit contained a damaged local buffer. Engineers recovered the final ninety seconds before impact.

Daniel’s credential entered the system.

A false warning appeared.

The helicopter turned.

Then Jack manually corrected the route, but a second command disabled his terrain display.

He transmitted one message before impact.

“Northstar executive override compromised. Claire, if this reaches you, protect the girls from Daniel.”

The message had never entered the official log.

Aegis intercepted it.

Hearing his own voice returned another memory.

Jack remembered crawling from the wreck and seeing a contractor helicopter land. Men wearing Aegis patches approached.

He expected rescue.

They injected him.

One man reported over the radio, “Rowan alive. Cognitive state unknown.”

Daniel answered through the speaker.

“Take him to Helix. No military hospital.”

The recording did not capture the reply clearly, but Jack recognized his brother’s cadence.

He collapsed before the contractor aircraft lifted.

Federal prosecutors added kidnapping and obstruction charges.

The crash was no longer an accident followed by opportunistic fraud.

It had been the first stage of the plan.

Claire listened to Jack’s unsent message.

He had thought of the girls before seeing their faces.

That fact mattered emotionally.

It did not erase the years Daniel stole.

Nothing could.

Justice would have to mean more than returning everyone to where they should have been.

That place no longer existed.
