After the park encounter, Claire allowed Jack to follow her to a nearby café.
They chose a corner table where the girls could color while the adults spoke quietly.
Claire showed Jack the farewell video.
He watched himself say the sentence that had shaped six years of her life.
“That was recorded at Helix Neurological Institute.”
“You knew where you were?”
“Not then. I learned the name later.”
Jack explained the blurred photograph, sedation and gaps in memory. He showed Claire a copy of the death certificates Daniel gave him.
Claire read her own name.
The document listed the triplets as stillborn.
Her hands began shaking.
“Where did he get these?”
“Northstar’s security office handled everything after the crash.”
Claire compared the dates.
Her false death certificate had been issued the same day Daniel sent her Jack’s video.
The lies had been built together.
Ava looked up from her drawing.
“Are you really our dad?”
Neither adult answered immediately.
Jack moved his chair lower so he was not standing over the children.
“I might be. I knew your mother before you were born. Someone told me all of you died. We need to check the truth carefully.”
Lily asked whether he had been dead.
“No.”
“Were you lost?”
Jack looked at Claire.
“Yes.”
The answer was simple enough for a child and accurate enough for an adult.
Claire did not invite him home.
She did not forgive him because documents suggested another explanation. Six years of absence had consequences even if he had not chosen them.
They agreed to contact independent attorneys and arrange DNA testing through a court-approved laboratory.
Before leaving, Jack gave Claire the anonymous park message.
She recognized the handwriting.
It belonged to Nora Ellis, a nurse who once called Claire from Switzerland and then abruptly claimed she had dialed the wrong number.
Claire had saved the number for years.
When she called it now, Nora answered.
