The Facility Without a Name

Chapter 07 - The Facility Without a Name
Federal agents searched Helix.
The public hospital contained ordinary rehabilitation wards. Beneath it was a private wing absent from patient directories and licensing reports.
Rooms had interior locks.
Internet access passed through Northstar security.
Several patients lived under altered names while legal matters involving trusts or companies proceeded outside.
Jack was not the only one.
An elderly software founder had been declared incapable while his nephew sold patents. A whistleblower injured in an industrial accident remained isolated after refusing a settlement. A defense analyst was listed as voluntarily retired while doctors controlled every call.
Dr. Voss called the wing protective care.
Investigators called it unlawful confinement.
Jack’s records showed repeated sedation before legal consultations. Each time his memory improved, Daniel authorized another evaluation describing confusion.
Nora’s unedited video revealed the manipulation clearly.
A therapist showed Jack a blurred image and asked, “Do you recognize this woman?”
Jack said, “I can’t see her.”
The edited version removed the last three words.
Another clip showed Daniel telling him Claire and the babies died.
Jack became so distressed that Voss administered medication. The resulting disorientation appeared in the next incapacity report.
Dr. Voss attempted to leave the country.
Agents arrested him at the airport with encrypted patient files.
He agreed to cooperate after learning Northstar planned to blame him entirely.
Voss claimed Daniel believed Jack’s memory loss was temporary and intended to reveal the family survived after corporate control stabilized.
No timeline existed.
No preparation for reunion appeared in any record.
The lie had become permanent because it remained useful.
Helix closed the private wing. Independent advocates reviewed every patient’s status.
The investigation expanded beyond one family.
Jack struggled after seeing the room again. He remembered the ceiling light, locked door and footsteps before injections.
Claire attended one meeting but did not become his sole source of comfort.

Jack needed trauma care independent of the woman whose life had also been manipulated.
Their healing could intersect without becoming the same job.
