Vivian and Dr. Shaw were tried separately.
Shaw accepted a plea agreement and testified first.
He described the board-dinner dose, forged medical history and hospital sedation plan. In exchange, prosecutors reduced one charge but preserved a substantial prison recommendation.
Vivian’s defense portrayed him as a rogue physician protecting his own career.
The messages contradicted that story.
So did the forged proxy, prepared through a law firm Vivian selected.
Hannah testified about Thomas’s responses, the IV line and Emily’s hidden device log. The defense suggested grief made her interpret random movement as consciousness.
An independent neurologist explained the squeeze code and consistent responses.
Then Evan’s recording played.
The room heard Vivian say the sale would be approved, the second dose would resemble a stroke and the DNR would preserve Thomas’s supposed wishes.
Vivian took the stand.
She said the phrases were metaphorical, spoken during exhaustion. She insisted Thomas had become obsessed with saving every clinic regardless of financial reality.
The prosecutor asked why financial disagreement required paralytic medication.
Vivian blamed Shaw.
Why did she tell Evan his father was removing him from the trust?
Family concern.
Why did Apex’s liability plan appear on her private computer?
Legal review.
Each answer separated one action from the next.
The prosecution reassembled them.
The jury convicted Vivian of attempted murder, conspiracy, fraud, evidence tampering and obstruction.
Shaw received convictions under his plea.
Several executives and attorneys faced separate charges.
Thomas attended the verdict remotely.
He showed no satisfaction.
Vivian had been his partner, wife and closest adviser.
