The gala made her recognizable, which sometimes helped and often exhausted her.
People wanted dramatic stories about the cupcake.
Claire redirected them toward systems: controlled doctors, hidden financial interests, manipulated mental-health histories and employees afraid to report powerful guests.
Lily grew uncomfortable whenever desserts fell at parties.
Therapy helped.
Claire never told her to be brave like that night.
A child should not feel obligated to recreate trauma to deserve praise.
