The Security Director Who Trusted No One

Chapter 02 - The Security Director Who Trusted No One

Daniel Mercer joined Westmont Global after twelve years in military intelligence.

Victor hired him to protect hotels, executives and guests. Graham treated him like a brother.

At first, the friendship seemed genuine.

Daniel helped Graham recover from addiction, covered overnight security shifts when tabloids followed him and defended him when directors called him too reckless to inherit the company.

Claire saw the imbalance.

Graham accepted loyalty as if it were a resource owed to him.

When Daniel began auditing missing foundation money, Graham’s warmth disappeared. Millions intended for employee housing and rural clinics had moved through consulting firms linked to him.

Daniel reported the transfers to Victor.

Victor demanded proof before accusing family.

So Daniel built the independent camera archive.

The ballroom camera was one of forty units using a hidden external network. Graham’s security team controlled the visible system. Daniel controlled the backup.

Two weeks later, Daniel died on Hawthorne Pass.

Police found no brake failure and no second vehicle.

His evidence drive disappeared.

Claire received a sealed message after the funeral:

If anything happens to me, do not confront Graham until he believes the cameras are dead.

The ballroom gala was the first event held after Victor announced he would transfer voting authority to Graham.

Claire accepted temporary work with the catering company to monitor the private network.
