By morning, Lily’s face appeared across news sites.
Some called her the little hero of the Westmont gala. Others accused Claire of coaching a child to attack a wealthy family.
Claire requested that outlets remove the images.
Most refused.
Graham’s publicist released a statement saying Lily had a history of anxiety and attention-seeking behavior. The information came from private school records accessed through a Westmont donor account.
Claire sued for the disclosure.
She also refused every television interview offering money.
Lily asked whether she had done something wrong.
“No.”
“Then why are people mad?”
“Because sometimes people protect a comfortable story before checking whether it is true.”
Lily returned to school under temporary privacy measures.
A therapist helped her understand that noticing danger did not make her responsible for the entire investigation.
