Why Victor Needed the Cupcake

Chapter 03 - Why Victor Needed the Cupcake
Victor Westmont had a dangerous heart condition.
His physician controlled every meal at public events. The red-rose cupcake contained reduced sugar and no ingredients that interfered with medication.
Only the family kitchen knew which dessert belonged to him.
Graham knew too.
Toxicology found two substances in the broken cupcake: a sedative and a cardiac drug capable of causing confusion, collapse and severe rhythm disturbance.
The combination might not kill Victor immediately.
It could make him appear mentally incapable.
Graham had prepared emergency documents transferring trust control to himself if Victor suffered a public neurological or cardiac episode.
The gala provided witnesses, cameras he believed inactive and a room filled with directors ready to vote.
He did not need his grandfather dead before midnight.
He needed him unable to object.
Lily saw Graham inject the cupcake while searching for a napkin near the service entrance. He noticed her only after she reached for it.
Destroying the dessert display allowed him to claim contamination and remove the marked cake before anyone tested it.
Claire preserved the crushed portion in a sealed catering container.
Daniel had taught her chain of custody.

The child had stopped the poisoning.
Her mother made sure the evidence survived.
