Chapter 19 - Lily Asked About Her Father
At twelve, Lily asked to see the final recording Daniel made.
Claire had protected it until she could choose.
The video showed Daniel serious, tired and afraid. He spoke about cameras, Graham and the possibility that he might not return.
Then he addressed Lily.
“You may hear that protecting people means never being scared. That is wrong. Fear tells us what matters. Courage decides what we do next.”
Lily cried.
She asked why Daniel had not left the company sooner.
Claire answered that he believed evidence could fix the family before the family hurt him.
It was a mistake made from hope, not stupidity.
They watched the video once.
Lily chose not to keep a copy in her room.
