Dr. Stephen Cole was arrested at his private clinic.
He first denied knowing Veronica.
Then investigators showed him the payments.
He admitted preparing a false mental-capacity declaration and prescribing sedatives through another patient’s name.
Small doses had been added to Clara’s tea by a kitchen assistant working under Veronica’s orders.
The medication caused dizziness, memory gaps, and emotional instability.
Veronica used the symptoms as proof that Clara could not be trusted.
The declaration was dated Friday.
Had Nathan returned on schedule, Clara would have been transferred to a private treatment center outside the state.
There, Veronica would control visitors, communication, and medical decisions.
The confession document found on the marble floor would support the story that Clara left voluntarily after stealing the bracelet.
“What was supposed to happen after the transfer?” Detective Ruiz asked.
Dr. Cole stared at his attorney.
“The dosage would be increased until the pregnancy ended.”
Nathan left the interview room before the doctor finished.
He found Clara waiting in the hallway.
“I told you the tea made me feel strange,” she said.
Nathan remembered answering that pregnancy could make ordinary things taste different.
He had offered reassurance instead of attention.
“I am sorry.”
Clara looked at him.
“Sorry is true. It is not enough yet.”
He nodded.
Trust would not return because he arrived in time to see the heel.
For months, Clara had been asking him to look.
He had chosen the explanation that protected family peace.
Detective Ruiz later found messages between Veronica and Dr. Cole.
Friday resolves the inheritance problem.
If Clara resists, the treatment order will make resistance irrelevant.
The charge expanded from assault and fraud to attempted murder and conspiracy.
