Chapter 08 - The Story Veronica Released

Veronica’s attorneys released a public statement.

They claimed Clara suffered from pregnancy-related paranoia, stole the bracelet, and attacked Veronica before the camera footage began.

Edited clips appeared online.

One showed Clara reaching toward Veronica’s dress.

Another showed Veronica falling through the glass without showing the confrontation before it.

Anonymous accounts called Clara a gold digger trying to seize the Ashford fortune.

Private therapy notes were leaked.

The notes were fabricated.

Yet they looked convincing enough to become headlines.

Clara stopped reading after strangers debated whether her crying seemed real.

Nathan wanted to release every piece of evidence.

She stopped him.

“This cannot become a powerful husband explaining why his wife should be believed.”

She spoke publicly herself.

“The security footage shows who planted the bracelet. The laboratory found sedatives in my blood. The financial records show the stolen money. Whether people like me does not change evidence.”

Former foundation employees began contacting investigators.

An accountant provided emails ordering records destroyed.

A shelter director described being threatened after questioning the sale.

Household workers reported years of humiliation, unpaid wages, and intimidation.

Nathan listened to each statement.

The abuse had never been invisible.

The family had made speaking dangerous.

He resigned as chief executive of Ashford Holdings until an independent audit could determine what happened under his signature.

Board members warned that the company needed stability.

Nathan answered, “Stability built on silence is another word for protection.”

Clara did not praise him.
